Tragedy Strikes British Man Seeking Hair Transplant in Turkey
A 36-year-old British citizen has died in Istanbul following medical procedures that included a hair transplant, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Mentor Rama, 36, a British national of Albanian heritage, passed away in hospital on November 11 after travelling to Turkey for the popular cosmetic surgery.
Sequence of Events Leading to Death
According to local reports, Mr Rama had been staying in a hotel in the Şişli district, conveniently located near the clinic where he underwent his hair transplant procedure.
The following day, he received additional dental treatment before returning to his accommodation, where he tragically collapsed.
Emergency services rushed him to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital via ambulance. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at approximately 4:30 pm on November 11.
Aftermath and Investigation
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, which highlights the potential risks associated with medical tourism.
Following the completion of an autopsy, Mr Rama's family collected his body and made arrangements to repatriate him to his home country.
The case has drawn attention to the growing trend of Britons travelling abroad for cosmetic procedures, where hair transplants can cost as little as £1,500 compared to £10,000 or more in the United Kingdom.
