Television Campaign Leads to Life-Saving Discovery
Broadcasting icon Davina McCall has shared a deeply personal health update, revealing she was diagnosed with breast cancer after being prompted to check herself by a campaign on Lorraine Kelly's ITV daytime show. The 58-year-old former Big Brother host explained that she discovered a lump after seeing an infographic from the programme's Change+Check initiative, which ultimately led to her diagnosis.
McCall underwent surgery in October 2025 after finding the abnormality. Fortunately, doctors detected the cancer very, very early, allowing for a successful lumpectomy procedure. The television personality is now recovering and is scheduled to undergo five days of radiotherapy in January, which she described as an insurance policy to prevent the cancer from returning.
Overwhelming Support from Showbiz Friends
Following McCall's emotional Instagram video announcement, an outpouring of support flooded in from fellow celebrities and the official Lorraine show social media accounts. The Lorraine page posted: We're sending all our love to Davina McCall, who has revealed today that she has undergone surgery for breast cancer. Davina found her lump after seeing our Change+Check awareness sticker and thankfully caught the cancer before it had spread.
Lorraine Kelly herself, 65, added a personal message: I'm so glad Davina saw our Change+Check sticker and the cancer was caught early. That's the whole point of the campaign, to raise awareness and save lives. The Scottish presenter launched her Change+Check campaign for the seventh consecutive year earlier in 2025, with the initiative displaying informative leaflets and stickers in public spaces and across social media to educate people about breast cancer symptoms.
Important Health Message for All Women
Davina McCall used her platform to deliver a crucial health message to her followers, emphasising the importance of regular checks and timely medical appointments. She advised: Get checked if you're worried, check yourself regularly. If you are due a mammogram, then get it done. McCall also revealed she has dense breasts and had postponed an ultrasound after a clear mammogram in August, urging women not to make the same mistake.
This health scare comes just one year after McCall underwent surgery to remove a benign brain tumour, which was discovered during a health check-up related to her menopause advocacy work. She received the all-clear for that condition in April 2025. Among the many celebrity well-wishers were Amanda Holden, Dawn French, Mel B, Claudia Winkleman, and Fearne Cotton, who all sent messages of support and admiration for her bravery in sharing her story.
