Bonnie Tyler has woken up from an induced coma in Portugal after reportedly suffering a heart attack. The 75-year-old singer, known for her 1983 hit 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' remains seriously ill but is showing signs of improvement.
Health Struggles and Emergency Surgery
Tyler had been experiencing health issues that led to emergency bowel surgery and the removal of her appendix in May. It was later revealed that she had to be resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest. Her representative told The Sun: 'Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill. Although her condition is improving, the recovery process is slow.'
She continues to receive intensive care in Faro, Portugal. According to her long-time friend Liberto Mealha, Tyler began feeling unwell while in London and consulted a doctor there, but nothing was detected. She then traveled to the Algarve, where she experienced severe abdominal pain. Two days later, she went to a private hospital, which urgently transferred her to the hospital in Faro due to a burst appendix requiring emergency surgery.
Upcoming Gigs Canceled
All of Bonnie Tyler's future performances have been canceled until the end of August. Her management expressed gratitude for the global support, stating: 'We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous sympathy and support from around the world.'
This is a developing story, and more updates will follow as information becomes available.
