The rescue plan involves a delicate and unprecedented approach.
The operation began with six helpers wading through hip-deep water to reach the stranded mammal. Their plan involves flushing clear the silt beneath the whale's flippers, then sliding air cushions under the animal to gently lift it onto a tarpaulin. This tarpaulin would be tethered to pontoons on either side, creating a makeshift transport system.
