A daring escape by a young flamingo has set wildlife experts and local communities on high alert across Cornwall. Frankie, a distinctive pink bird, has vanished from his enclosure at a Cornish wildlife sanctuary, triggering an extensive search operation.
The great flamingo getaway occurred earlier this week when the adventurous bird managed to find a gap in his habitat's fencing. Sanctuary staff discovered Frankie missing during routine checks and immediately launched efforts to locate their feathered fugitive.
"Frankie is still quite young and hasn't yet developed the full pink plumage of adult flamingos," explained a sanctuary spokesperson. "This actually makes him more vulnerable in the wild, as he lacks the natural protection that comes with blending into a flock."
Public Appeal for Sightings
Local residents and visitors are being asked to keep their eyes peeled for the unusual sight of a lone flamingo in the Cornish countryside. Wildlife experts warn against approaching the bird if spotted, but urge people to immediately contact the sanctuary with location details.
"He's likely to be quite disoriented and may seek out water sources," the spokesperson added. "We're particularly concerned about coastal areas and any large bodies of water where he might attempt to land."
