Police in the United States have released a new image and a series of video clips showing a 'person of interest' wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at Brown University. The attack on Saturday afternoon left two students dead and nine others injured.
Manhunt Enters Fourth Day
The search for the gunman entered its fourth day on Tuesday, 16 December 2025. The shooting unfolded at approximately 4.03pm local time on the first floor of an engineering and physics building, where exams were being conducted. A law enforcement official stated the attacker fired more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun.
The newly released materials show a stocky man, approximately 5ft 8in (173cm) tall, dressed in dark clothing, a black hat, and a face mask. In all videos, his face is either obscured or turned away from the camera.
Video Timeline Tracks Suspect's Movements
Authorities have published a video timeline hoping someone will recognise the individual's movements. The clips show a man walking briskly and at one point running between 2pm and 3pm on streets about a block from the eventual crime scene.
A further clip, timestamped around the time of the shooting, shows a figure walking from the building's car park towards the street as police cars with flashing lights arrive. A final video shows the same person walking along a nearby street roughly three minutes after the attack.
Providence Police confirmed there is no clear footage of the gunman inside the building itself. Attorney General Peter Neronha explained that while there are cameras in newer sections, there are "fewer, if any, cameras" in the older part where the shooting occurred.
Victims Remembered and Safety Concerns Raised
The two students killed have been named as Ella Cook, 19, a sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, 18, a freshman from Brandermill, Virginia.
Ms Cook served as vice president of the College Republicans club at Brown. Reverend R Craig Smalley described her as "an incredibly grounded, faithful, bright light". Mr Umurzokov, whose family emigrated from Uzbekistan, was an aspiring neurosurgeon. His family said he was "incredibly kind, funny, and smart" and always lent a helping hand.
The attack and the perpetrator's escape have ignited significant concerns about campus safety, particularly regarding the lack of security cameras in older buildings. This has prompted calls for improved security measures, including better door locks.
Authorities stated that a man detained in connection with the attack on Sunday has since been released. The investigation remains ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
