Cheryl Hall, the actress celebrated for her roles in EastEnders, The Bill, and Citizen Smith, has died at the age of 76. Her former partner, actor and singer Robin Askwith, announced the news on social media, expressing profound grief.

Askwith, who dated Hall for three years in the 1970s, took to X to share his sorrow. He wrote: 'What a force of nature she was. A really innovative working class, charismatic actress coming out of the late 60s. Brave in every way.' He added, 'And now I have the sad news she has passed away. I am devastated… She was my beginning. RIP Cheryl Hall.' Alongside his post, he attached a photo of himself with Hall from his time in the 1970s comedy series Confessions.

Following her relationship with Askwith, Hall married actor Robert Lindsay from 1974 to 1980, after they appeared together in Citizen Smith as an on-screen couple. Hall played Shirley Johnson, the girlfriend of Wolfie Smith, in the sitcom that ran for four seasons from 1977 to 1980. Her other early credits included On the Buses, where she portrayed Eileen in one of her first TV appearances. She later featured in Doctor Who as Shirna, played Christine in eight episodes of EastEnders in the late 1980s, and was Sadie in 12 episodes of The Bill.
Return to The Bill and Other Roles
After her initial stint in the police drama from 1984 to 1988, Hall returned to The Bill in 2007, this time as the character Pauline Smith. Her extensive CV also included roles in popular shows such as Poirot, Inspector Morse, Grange Hill, Casualty, and Silent Witness. On the big screen, she appeared in To Catch a Spy (1971), The Love Ban (1974), and Three for All (1975), among others.
