Orion Scotts Park, a primary school in Bromley, has been praised by Ofsted after achieving Strong Standard ratings in three inspection areas. The inspection took place in June 2026 and was published this month, highlighting the school's performance in attendance and behaviour, early years, and leadership and governance.
Strong Standards Across Key Areas
Inspectors found that Orion Scotts Park, located in Orchard Road, met the Strong Standard in attendance and behaviour, early years provision, and leadership and governance. The school achieved the Expected Standard in achievement, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, and personal development and wellbeing. Safeguarding standards were also found to be met.
Overseen by Orion Education Trust, the school has 361 pupils on roll and includes nursery provision for two-year-olds. The inspection report praised the school's culture, noting that attendance rates are now above the national average, including among disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Behaviour and Early Years Praised
In attendance and behaviour, inspectors said the school had created a strong culture focused on attendance, with rates now above the national average, including among disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND. They also found behaviour management was clear and consistent, praising behaviour as "excellent" and creating calm and productive learning environments.
The report said: "Pupils are polite, courteous and kind to one another. Movement around the school is calm and orderly, with pupils demonstrating incredibly high levels of self-discipline."
In the early years provision, inspectors found children settled quickly, felt safe and benefited from a carefully planned curriculum stretching from Nursery to Reception. They highlighted effective phonics teaching and said pupils developed resilience, independence and focus from an early age. The report said: "Children settle quickly and begin learning from their first days in the early years. Children are immersed in stories to develop a love of reading."
Leadership and Governance Recognised
Inspectors also awarded a Strong Standard for leadership and governance. Leaders and governors were found to share a clear vision for high-quality education, respond effectively to change and prioritise staff development. The report stated: "Leaders are focusing on the right things to bring about further improvement. Professional learning is a high priority."
Achievement was judged to be at the Expected Standard. Inspectors found pupils generally retained their learning well and were secure in reading, writing and maths, with outcomes having been above national averages in recent years. However, they said writing accuracy remained an area for further improvement. Inspectors wrote: "Across the curriculum, pupils remember what they have been taught in the long term and pupils are typically well-prepared for their next steps."
Curriculum and Inclusion Assessed
The school's curriculum and teaching also met the Expected Standard. Ofsted praised the ambitious and broad curriculum and said teachers generally had secure subject knowledge. However, inspectors found that teaching was not consistently effective across all classes and identified areas for improvement in writing fluency and stamina. The report said: "There is an ambitious and broad curriculum in place. Teachers' subject knowledge is typically secure, although sometimes teaching is not as skilful."
Inclusion was also judged to meet the Expected Standard. Inspectors described Orion Scotts Park as an inclusive school where every pupil is valued, noting that new systems were helping staff identify pupils' needs more quickly and provide appropriate support. For personal development and wellbeing, inspectors highlighted the school's enrichment programme, leadership opportunities and support for pupil mental health.
The report stated: "Leaders are ambitious that every pupil accesses the full range of opportunities and pupils' talents and interests are harnessed and developed." It continued: "Pupils enjoy school and are proud members of the Orion Scotts Park community. Positive relationships between staff and pupils create a warm and nurturing environment." Safeguarding arrangements were found to be effective, with inspectors concluding that safeguarding standards were met.
Cheryl Raithby, principal of Orion Scotts Park, said: "We are incredibly proud of the recognition our school has received from Ofsted. This report is a wonderful reflection of the hard work, commitment and ambition of our pupils, staff, families and wider school community. It is particularly encouraging to see the strengths of our culture recognised, from the excellent behaviour and high expectations of our pupils, to the strong provision in our early years and the many opportunities we provide for children to develop their confidence, independence and sense of responsibility. It is wonderful to see Ofsted recognise that our pupils feel safe, valued and connected to the Orion Scotts Park community. Being part of Orion has played an important role in our continued development. The support, expertise and shared learning across the Trust enable us to focus on what matters most for our pupils and to keep improving together. The positive impact of our trust-wide approach to attendance, in particular, is something we are delighted to see recognised. While there is much to celebrate, we know that great schools never stand still. We will continue to build on these strengths, working together across Orion to ensure every child is supported to achieve their highest educational and personal goals, regardless of their background."
