Woman jailed for wine glass attack on ex's new girlfriend

Jade Hill, 21, has been sentenced to four years and ten months in prison for a brutal glassing attack on her ex-partner's new girlfriend, Georgina Kilburn, at The Closet nightclub in Weymouth, Dorset, on October 12, 2024. The attack left Miss Kilburn with three deep gashes on the side of her face, requiring more than 20 stitches, and permanent scarring.

Attack details

CCTV footage shows Hill storming over to Miss Kilburn, verbally abusing her, then smashing a wine glass into her face. A friend who intervened was also attacked with the broken glass stem, sustaining head and facial injuries requiring hospital treatment. The nightclub DJ interrupted the song “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon to call for security.

Hill was detained at the scene and arrested, while the victims were taken to hospital. She denied charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, forcing a two-week trial and the victims to give evidence.

Victim impact

Miss Kilburn described Hill's behaviour as vile, stating: 'Jade has not once accepted her actions, apologised to me or shown any remorse. She does not care about what she has done and is only sorry now that she is in prison.' She added that Hill made up lies about the incident and that she has received threatening messages from people claiming she is lying.

Justice served

Hill, from Portland, Dorset, was found guilty and jailed for four years and ten months, along with a five-year restraining order against both victims. Detective Constable Holly Hetherington of Dorset CID said: 'This was a violent and unprovoked attack using a glass, which caused the victims’ nasty injuries. Officers responded quickly to arrest the defendant, and we have worked to compile evidence to hold her to account for her offending.'
