In Germany, Oliver Strumpfel attempted a world record by carrying 31 beer mugs at the Gillamoos festival in Abensberg on 7 September, a moment of light-hearted ambition. Conversely, the shadow of conflict persisted, marked by the Eiffel Tower in Paris illuminated in the blue and yellow of Ukraine on 24 February, commemorating the third anniversary of Russia's invasion.
Sport provided both dizzying highs and painful lows. Britain's Lando Norris celebrated his first Formula 1 world title on 7 December after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Meanwhile, athletes experienced crushing falls during the UCI Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile, on 25 October.
