This evening's television lineup includes a new series examining miscarriages of justice, a property renovation show, a documentary on Cornwall, a historical biography of King James I, a period drama, and an investigation into unregulated sperm donation websites.
The Accused: Beyond Reasonable Doubt? (10pm, Channel 4)
“People are sitting in prison cells with life sentences when there is evidence that proves categorically they didn’t do it. And they call that justice.” This new series speaks to families fighting convictions they believe are wrongful. The first case involves Jason Moore, convicted of murder in a 2005 street fight, whose family campaigns for his release.
George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds (8pm, Channel 4)
Michelle in Windsor has called her bungalow “the hovel” for nearly a decade. With no renovation experience, she seeks help from property developer George Clarke to transform it into a home she likes. Challenges include an “uncomfortably placed loo” and a “horrific plastic lean-to”.
Cornwall: A Year By the Sea (8pm, Channel 5)
This light documentary returns to Cornwall, focusing on Port Isaac on the north coast, where the RNLI faces challenging conditions during a lifeboat training exercise. In the south, the Tregothnan estate continues to grow its own tea.
Queen James: Passion, Plots and Power in the Court of Britain’s First King (9pm, BBC Two)
Historian Gareth Russell tells the story of King James I, a pacifist, patron of Shakespeare, and religious reformer, but also controversial in his private life. Actor James McArdle brings James’s letters and speeches to life.
The Hardacres (9pm, Channel 5)
In this period drama, the sinister Lady Imelda Hansen makes a dramatic entrance to collect a debt. Mary comments on her mother’s risky bridge game: “My mother has shown an appalling lack of judgment.” Meanwhile, rebellious Emma shows her hand.
Swipe Right for Sperm (10pm, BBC Two)
A horrifying investigation into unregulated “Tinder for sperm” websites, where people unable to access fertility treatments pay for samples. A BBC Wales reporter pays £100 for a sample from a man claiming 180 children worldwide, which arrives in a frozen food carton.
