Tom Hardy has reportedly not been fired from the crime thriller series MobLand, despite earlier claims of on-set tension between the actor, his co-stars, and producers. The 48-year-old actor plays Harry De Souza, a pivotal figure caught between two warring families, in Guy Ritchie's London-based series, which also stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Paddy Considine.
During filming for the second season earlier this year, reports emerged about Hardy's behavior on set, including clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. He was also said to have been frequently late, constantly requesting script notes, and complaining about the ensemble direction of the show. Additionally, rumors of a specific clash with co-star Helen Mirren circulated.
Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Hardy's fate was still undecided, with sources describing his behavior as "career suicide" and claiming he refused to leave his trailer for hours. However, Variety now reports that Hardy has not been fired, and that the door remains open for a potential third season.
Sources Confirm Tensions but Not Dismissal
One source told Variety: "Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through creatively." Another insider added: "I'm sure Guy is probably pushing David Glasser to make it work. Guy likes working with Tom."
Issues reportedly arose for Hardy after scripts from Butterworth were delivered late, with limited access to discuss the material. Despite his struggles with the script, Hardy trusts Ritchie to guide the production, a source shared.
Helen Mirren Shows Support
Regarding the rumored tension between Hardy and Mirren, a source clarified: "I know she's said to him a couple of times: 'Come on Tom, we've been here for ages, let's get on with it,' but she's never appeared to be anti-Tom." This sentiment is backed by Mirren's own Instagram post, where she shared an image of Hardy with the text: "Love you now and always, Helen."
Addressing speculation about a political clash over their views on Gaza, the source continued: "I've never heard of anything political." Another agreed: "She's not the sort of person who's going to get involved in a whole political situation. She just isn't. She certainly isn't going to be one who stamps her feet and says: 'Well I'm not coming back if he's in it.' It's just not her."
Future of the Show
One source concluded that although Hardy is "known for being tricky," he has "got a good heart," and the crew aims to resolve rifts to have him back if possible. "I would certainly imagine if Guy had anything to say about it he'd probably be wanting to patch it all up because he knows how integral Tom is to the success of it," they said.
Fans who vowed to quit watching if Hardy left will be relieved. Season three has not been officially greenlit, but producers hope to start filming in September once approved. MobLand season one is available to stream on Paramount Plus, with no release date yet for season two.
