Remembering Gogglebox Stars Who Have Died

Gogglebox fans and stars are mourning the loss of another beloved cast member. Ken Harwood, a regular on the Channel 4 show from 2020 to 2022, died last week after a short illness at the age of 77. He appeared alongside his wife of 55 years, Anne, and hailed from County Durham. Studio Lambert, the production company behind the show, released a statement expressing that Ken will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. A tribute is planned for the upcoming episode.

Ken Harwood is not the first Gogglebox star to pass away in recent years. Here, we pay tribute to those who contributed to the popular programme and are no longer with us.

George Gilbey

George Gilbey died in March 2024 due to an accident at work. The self-employed electrician fell through a skylight while working on a roof in Shoeburyness, Essex, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter but were released without charge. George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mother Linda and stepfather Pete. He also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, finishing in fourth place.

Pete McGarry

Pete McGarry, George Gilbey's stepfather, died from cancer in June 2021 at the age of 71. He passed away at his home in Essex surrounded by family, including his wife Linda. The family expressed deep sadness at his loss, noting that he would be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family.

Pat Webb

Pat Webb, known as Mummy Pat, died in January 2026 at age 75 after a long illness. She appeared on Gogglebox from series 10 to 12 alongside her son Stephen. Her son paid tribute to her on Instagram, calling her one in a million and the centre of their world.

Leon and June Bernicoff

Leon Bernicoff died in December 2017 at age 83 after a short illness. His wife June passed away in May 2020 at age 82. They were the first couple cast for Gogglebox in 2013 and were beloved for their warmth and wit. June wrote a book about their 60-year love affair after Leon's death.

Mary Cook

Mary Cook died in August 2021 at age 92. She appeared on Gogglebox from 2016 alongside her best friend Marina Wingrove, delighting viewers with their banter. Channel 4 confirmed her death, describing her as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Andy Michael

Andy Michael died in August 2021 at age 61 after a short illness. He was one of the original cast members, appearing in the very first episode in 2013. He was a retired hotelier and a beloved father and husband.

Caroline Aherne

Caroline Aherne, the original narrator of Gogglebox, died in July 2016 at age 52 after a battle with lung cancer. She was a Bafta-winning writer and comedy actor, best known for The Royle Family. She was succeeded by her friend Craig Cash.
