Gamers Debate Worst Title of 2025 & Zelda's RPG Future in Latest Inbox
Readers Crown Worst Game of 2025 & Discuss Zelda RPG

In the latest edition of the GameCentral Inbox, published on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, readers have turned their attention to identifying the year's biggest gaming disappointments while speculating on the future of beloved franchises like The Legend of Zelda.

The Contender for Worst Game of the Year

One reader, Winston, kicked off the debate by questioning what could be crowned the worst video game of 2025. He acknowledged the difficulty, as informed gamers often avoid poor titles, but pointed to the critical reception on Metacritic as a key indicator.

While admitting the worst game he personally played was Metroid Prime 4, Winston suggested the dubious honour likely belongs to MindsEye. He described it as potentially "one of the worst video games ever made," noting the stark contrast for its developers, who previously worked on the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series. This, he argued, highlights that game development is a colossal team effort, beyond the vision of any single individual.

GameCentral confirmed its traditional Top 20 games of the year list will be revealed over the Christmas break.

Future Visions: Zelda as a Role-Playing Game?

Another hot topic was the future of Nintendo's flagship adventure series. Reader Korbie theorised that the next Zelda project will likely be a spin-off, especially with the involvement of Monolith Soft, known for the Xenoblade Chronicles series.

Korbie expressed a desire to move away from the Breath of the Wild format and instead see a Japanese-style RPG take on the world of Hyrule. This approach, they suggested, could allow for a larger ensemble of characters to interact and fight together in a way the main series rarely permits. However, they conceded timing such a release alongside the upcoming Zelda movie might be complicated, leaving the door open for possibilities like a direct sequel or a much-requested Ocarina of Time remake.

Controller Nostalgia and Industry Concerns

The inbox also covered a range of other gamer musings. Bootles reminisced about the retro Quickshot 2 joystick but questioned the old-fashioned design, pondering why single-button joysticks were ever the norm for home computers.

Looking at current industry trends, Cernel voiced concerns about Sony's live-service strategy, fearing the potential failure of Marathon could lead to the closure of Bungie. They proposed Bungie should instead create a spiritual successor to Halo. Meanwhile, Cranston shared a longing for news on FromSoftware's next major single-player project, following the multiplayer-focused The Duskbloods and the Elden Ring: Nightreign expansion.

Elsewhere, Gaston found Larian Studios' decision to make another Divinity game after the monumental success of Baldur's Gate 3 to be a "predictable" and safe choice. David placed blame for any perceived downturn at Activision squarely on potential interference from new owners Xbox and its leadership.
