KSI, the social media influencer and Britain's Got Talent judge, has announced he is leaving the YouTube collective Sidemen. The 32-year-old, whose real name is Olajide Olatunji, has been making football, comedy, and challenge videos with the group since 2013.
A Difficult Decision
In a heartfelt video posted on YouTube, KSI described the announcement as the hardest video he has ever had to make. He explained that he had spent months deliberating the decision, ultimately choosing to step away from Sidemen videos as of May 31. "Even saying those words out loud doesn't feel real," he said, reflecting on the group's significance in his life.
The Sidemen, which includes Simon Minter, Josh Bradley, Vikram Barn, Tobi Brown, Ethan Payne, and Harry Lewis, boast 23 million subscribers on YouTube. Their most popular video, a budget travel challenge in Europe, has amassed over 100 million views. The collective has also expanded into merchandise, including a fried chicken chain, clothing, alcohol, and cereal.
Memories and Gratitude
KSI recalled the group's early days, playing Grand Theft Auto and making random videos without any expectation of the massive success they would achieve. He expressed gratitude for the journey, noting that they had sold out arenas and stadiums, broken records, and created Netflix shows together. "We've been there for each other through some of the highest highs and the lowest lows of our lives," he said, acknowledging that he had watched his friends grow into fathers and husbands.
KSI began his YouTube career in 2008, initially focusing on FIFA video game content before branching into vlogs, comedy, and music. He has since released two studio albums and recently acquired a minority stake in Dagenham & Redbridge football club. Earlier in May, his team Prime FC won the Baller League UK season 3 championship, a six-a-side football competition featuring celebrities and former professional players.
