Late-night hosts took aim at Donald Trump and the White House correspondents' dinner fallout, with Jimmy Kimmel highlighting the president's hypocrisy over jokes about his age. "Only Donald Trump would demand I be fired for making a joke about his old age, and then a day later go out and make a joke about his own old age," Kimmel said on his show Tuesday.
King Charles State Visit
Kimmel noted that King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Washington for a rare state visit. "Trump has a particular affinity for the royal family, and so in Washington, they pulled out all the stops to welcome the king and queen," Kimmel said, before showing footage of streets lined with Australian flags instead of Union Jacks. "Somehow, they screw everything up," he laughed.
During prepared remarks, Trump mentioned his mother Mary McLeod and joked about his own death, saying to Melania: "That's a record we won't be able to match, darling." Kimmel responded: "Wait a minute ... did he just make a joke about his death? My God. You should be fired for that."
Fallout from White House Correspondents' Dinner
On The Daily Show, Josh Johnson discussed the thwarted attack at the dinner and Republicans using it to push for funding Trump's proposed $400 million ballroom. "Four hundred million dollars?! That's our money!" Johnson fumed. "This is the administration that is obsessed with government waste. I can't believe they dissolved Doge right before Trump demanded a $400m ballroom."
Johnson also mocked the Justice Department's charging of former FBI director Jim Comey for posting a photo of seashells spelling "8647" on Instagram, calling it "a piece of art your aunt with a beach house would buy on Etsy."
Seth Meyers on King Charles and Melania's Birthday
On Late Night, Seth Meyers joked about King Charles's visit and Melania Trump's 56th birthday, which her husband did not acknowledge on social media but found time to congratulate Lee Greenwood on his grandchild's birth. Meyers also noted that Spotify's most streamed album is Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti, quipping: "If you're wondering what that translates to, about 38 cents."
