A brand new romantic drama on Prime Video has quickly drawn comparisons to The Summer I Turned Pretty and Off Campus after its premiere on the streaming platform. Titled Every Year After, the series is based on the novel Every Summer After by Carley Fortune and follows two lifelong friends exploring whether first love can become true love.
What Is Every Year After About?
The eight-episode series was developed by Amy B. Harris, known for her work on Sex and the City, and Leila Gerstein, an Emmy winner for The Handmaid's Tale. The story centers on Percy Fraser and Charlie Florek, played by Sadie Soverall and Michael Bradway, as they navigate love, friendship, and the complexities of adulthood. The show weaves between past and present, using flashbacks to explore their deep bond.
Early Reviews Praise the Show
Ambar Driscoll, founder of The Fangirl Nation, watched the first episode ahead of its release and warned fans of Off Campus that they would be 'emotionally destroyed' by Every Year After. She said: 'I cried in the first three minutes of the show. Prime Video clearly has the best budget for soundtracks ever. The way they weave in the flashbacks and alternate timing is so smart.'
Driscoll also noted that the series includes direct quotes from the book, adding: 'There is word-for-word book text in this. Immaculate summer vibes. It's so good, you're gonna love it.'
Comparison to Off Campus
Off Campus, which premiered on Prime Video on May 13, 2026, follows a music student and a hockey player. Fans who binged all eight episodes are now turning to Every Year After for a similar emotional experience. While Driscoll describes the two shows as 'completely different,' she believes fans of romantic dramas will enjoy both.
All eight episodes of Every Year After are now available to stream on Prime Video.
