Eurovision fans furious over Czechia song blunder

Eurovision fans have expressed their fury online after Czechia's song was 'ruined' by a technical blunder during the grand final in Vienna. Daniel Žižka, performing his song Crossroads, encountered several technical issues as he sang and danced through a chamber of mirrors. Viewers noted an obvious camera malfunction, with the screen glitching for several seconds.

Graham Norton comments on the mishap

The mistakes were so noticeable that UK commentator Graham Norton felt compelled to address them, explaining that the issues did not occur during rehearsals. He also mentioned that a cameraman fell over while filming. Despite the disruptions, Daniel managed to finish his performance, but fans at home were quick to lament that the song had been spoiled.

Fan reactions on social media

On X, user @norris12_ wrote: 'Camera malfunction during Czechia is actually diabolical Eurovision when I get you.' Another fan, @Yellows4Life, added: 'Huge shame about the technical issues for Czechia, cameraman issues? A stunning voice, one of my favs, will hopefully do well, but yeah #eurovision.' Some fans were so disappointed that they consulted the Eurovision rulebook, looking for a loophole that would allow Daniel to sing again.

@mz_storymakers posted: 'Technical hitch in Czechia! Picture kaput for seconds. According to the rules of Eurovision, Czechia can decide whether Daniel Žižka wants to sing again.' @ESC_At9 asked: 'I wonder if Czechia will argue that they should sing again, that was about 30 seconds of technical issues.'

Precedent for a redo

Under Eurovision rules, performers are allowed to request a redo if a malfunction disrupts their routine. In 2010, Spain's entry, Daniel Diges, was permitted to perform again after a stage invader interrupted his song. It has been confirmed that Czechia's delegation has officially submitted a claim to the EBU requesting the opportunity to perform again.

@ju_saik compared Daniel's issues to those of Zoë Më in the 2025 semi-final, tweeting: 'Why did it have to happen to him? Last year it was Zoë. Always my favourite.' While most viewers believe the malfunctions may have harmed Czechia's chances, not everyone agrees. @NYAndreas wrote: 'Czechia came to Eurovision 2026 like they had a concept, a smoke machine, and exactly zero interest in explaining the plot.'

The controversy has added to a night already plagued by technical drama, with fans and commentators alike questioning the production quality of this year's contest.
