Eurovision 2026: Sweden's NSFW Lyrics Shock Viewers, Romania's 'Choke Me' Sparks Debate
Eurovision 2026: Sweden's NSFW Lyrics Shock Viewers

Eurovision Song Contest viewers were left gobsmacked on Saturday night after mishearing Sweden's entry as something far more explicit than intended. The 70th annual contest, held at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria, saw Sweden represented by 24-year-old Felicia Eriksson with the electronic number My System. Taking the stage in the 20th slot, Eriksson performed alongside dancers and lasers, but it was the chorus that captured attention. She sings, 'No, I can't get you out of my system,' but due to her wearing a face mask, many heard 'I can't get you out of my sister.'

Social Media Reactions to Sweden's Lyrics

Viewers took to X to express their shock. @gaboss wrote, 'God, I thought she sang 'I can't get you out of my sister'!' @Freja9 added, 'When Sweden came on, I first heard it as 'I can get you out of my sister' and was like whoa… that's kinda inappropriate – had to look up the lyrics – but still it's all I can hear.' @coxyhockeychick laughed, 'It sounds like sister not system,' while @catmuurka echoed, 'I thought she was singing my sister, but it was my system.'

Romania's 'Choke Me' Sparks Controversy

Sweden wasn't the only country raising eyebrows. Romania's entrant, Alexandra Căpitănescu, performed a tune titled Choke Me, with lyrics including 'Born for you to control / I want you to choke me' and 'Love me, make my lungs explode.' The staging featured light-up ropes, prompting strong reactions. @UkandNireland called it a 'very controversial song' and stated, 'It's a No from me.' @itsjust_mj04 asked, 'Wait what? Choke me??' @ThisLeadenPall simply said, 'WTF?' @dizzy_thinks joked about 'upping the BDSM stakes,' and @lagomsensei warned, 'Don't do this at home kids.' @sharon_wisner raged, 'tbh I'm really not behind the Romanian choke me song. Seriously. This is a bad message how did it get through the vetting? Not good!' However, some fans embraced it, calling it a 'banger,' and @MAHLeeGO even hailed it as their 'winner.'

Malta's Miriana Conte Returns with 'Kant'

Eurovision 2026 also welcomed back Miriana Conte from Malta, who caused a stir last year with her song featuring the word 'kant,' which sounds like the English swear word. In Maltese, 'kant' means 'singing.' Despite being ordered to censor the word in 2025, Conte returned to a roaring reception. @eurovisionpollz said, 'Miriana Conte is a real queen,' while @joecrook96 called her a 'legend in the building.' @oddinarything celebrated, 'KANT IS BACK.' Some viewers questioned the double standard: @EmmaGorowska asked, 'How is 'choke me' not so much worse than 'serving Kant'?!?'

The night was filled with surprises, proving once again that Eurovision never fails to deliver unexpected moments. For more updates, sign up for our TV Daily newsletter or join our Eurovision WhatsApp channel.
