In emotional scenes last month, Nigel passed away in a care home with Julie and Phil by his side. Wednesday's episode saw the day of his funeral arrive, proving upsetting for Julie as she struggled to find the right words to pay tribute. Clare Bates (Gemma Bissix), who returned for the service, recalled an old poem Nigel helped her with for an English assignment. The poem, in which Nigel imagined himself as an older person looking back on his life, provided the perfect solution. Julie tearfully read it aloud at the service, offering catharsis as mourners paid tribute to the unforgettable titan of the Square by wearing some of his signature colorful ties.
Phil and Grant's Tribute
Phil and Grant Mitchell also spoke, honoring their kind, dear friend. Phil broke down recalling how Nigel saved his life during his mental health battle, sharing a moment at the coffin with the best mate he ever had. After the service, Julie and Phil spent time outside with the chickens. Julie revealed she would leave the Square to return to Scotland, where her happiest memories with Nigel reside.
