Sarah Sugden’s plan to punish Charity Dingle has backfired, leaving her facing prison for perverting the course of justice. The Emmerdale character changed her statement to police, incriminating her gran for the death of Dr Todd, but now finds herself in custody as detectives seek the truth.
Sarah’s revenge backfires
After Charity revealed that baby Leyla wasn’t her biological child, Sarah saw red and altered her police statement regarding the death of Dr Todd, implicating Charity in the crime. The cruelty of Sarah’s actions shocked her loved ones, with Mackenzie Boyd threatening to tell Jacob Sugden the truth about Leyla’s parentage and Sarah’s role in Todd’s death.
Sarah then confessed all to Jacob, who turned his back on her, heartbroken that Leyla isn’t his biological child. However, Jacob soon returned to the village with Leyla and suggested he and Sarah leave together. Having finally seen sense, Sarah decided to change her statement back to the original, hoping to secure Charity’s freedom.
Police refuse to release Sarah
But DS Ramsden decided to keep Sarah in custody for perverting the course of justice, stating she intends to find out whether it’s Sarah or Charity who is truly lying. The police don’t know who to believe, but they know someone is lying and are determined to uncover the truth.
Emmerdale is off air until Thursday September 17, with the next episode dealing with the aftermath of Sarah’s actions as she is forced to face the music for what she’s done. Viewers will see whether Sarah has sealed her own fate with her cruel revenge on Charity, and whether the truth about Todd’s demise—a crime carried out by Sarah—will ultimately be exposed.
Elsewhere in the village
In other storylines, Lewis Barton contemplates encouraging Vinny Dingle to propose, but Kev advises against it. Meanwhile, Joe Tate receives a telling off from Billy Fletcher, who learns that the children are not invited to Dawn’s funeral. Ruby Miligan overhears and pays Joe a visit, hoping to change his mind, but Joe makes it clear things could turn ugly if she doesn’t leave.
