Delta Goodrem Sends Australia to Eurovision 2026 Grand Final with Stunning Performance
Delta Goodrem Qualifies for Eurovision 2026 Grand Final

Delta Goodrem delivered a note-perfect performance of her power-ballad entry, Eclipse, in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, securing Australia's place in the grand final for the first time since 2023. The 41-year-old singer, adorned in over 7,000 Swarovski crystals, stood before a glistening crescent moon as she captivated the audience with her remarkable upper range.

A Self-Assured Offering

Heading into the competition as an early favourite behind heavy-hitters Denmark and Finland, Goodrem's performance was precise and undeniable. The track, while impressive, is somewhat formulaic, but Goodrem found a way to stand out in a crowded field of 15 solo female performers among the 35 competing countries. After a dramatic trek downstage to her sparkling gold piano, she performed a short piano solo, though the camera was unexpectedly obstructed, making it difficult to see her actually play.

The performance climaxed with a key change, and Goodrem was propelled into the air on a platform rising from within the piano. Wind, fire, and her remarkable vocal range combined to create a refreshingly self-assured offering from Australia after a disappointing couple of years in the competition.

Australia's Eurovision Journey

Australia first appeared at Eurovision in 2014, when Jessica Mauboy performed as an interval act during the semi-finals. Last year's Australian entry, Go-Jo, failed to progress to the grand final with his campy ode to self-confidence, Milkshake Man. In 2024, duo Electric Fields made history as the first Australian entrants to perform in Yankunytjatjara, a traditional language of the Aṉangu peoples, yet their song One Milkali (One Blood) also failed to advance beyond the semi-final.

Only 35 countries are competing at Eurovision this year, the lowest number since 2003. Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Slovenia, and the Netherlands boycotted the 2026 competition, citing Israel's participation and the Israeli government's attacks on Gaza.

Goodrem's Heartfelt Connection

Ahead of her debut performance, Goodrem said, 'Performing on the Eurovision stage is something I feel so deeply in my heart, carrying Australia with me in every note and every moment.' This week, she announced her seventh studio album, Pure, will be released on 6 November.

The Eurovision Song Contest grand final will air on SBS On Demand from 5am AEST on Sunday 17 May.
