Aubrey Plaza has welcomed her first child with partner Christopher Abbott. The White Lotus actress, 42, was seen carrying her newborn baby in New York City last weekend, after watching the actor’s final performance in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. A source told TMZ that Aubrey gave birth to a daughter in the final week of July.
First-time motherhood after a year of grief
The news comes one year after Aubrey’s estranged husband Jeff Baena took his own life in January 2025, aged 47. In April, Aubrey told how she couldn’t wait to become a first-time mum, because parenting has always seemed ‘so interesting’. During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, she said: ‘There’s a baby inside of me right now. Yes it’s true… I know it’s shocking isn’t it. Yes [this is baby number one] …’
The Parks and Recreation star said she went to the doctor for an ultrasound scan before recording the podcast, and she had to take her dog to the vet on the same day for a similar procedure. She explained: ‘Today was a big day I went to the doctors today, and my dog also went to the doctor. My dog is getting a scan right now and I got a scan earlier. She’s also getting a scan on her stomach … I think she’s ok. She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach and I got an ultrasound on my stomach and there is a baby in there … It already has a cloak and a little hat … I think it’s going to come out …’
Excitement and plans for the East Coast
When asked if she’s excited about becoming a mother, Aubrey replied: ‘I am [excited] I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about you know. It seems so interesting that whole thing …’ Aubrey also revealed she’s now living in New York and plans to raise her baby on America’s East Coast. She said: ‘I’m back in New York … Yeah … [it’s not] totally thought through but East Coast for sure. My family is in Philadelphia and Delaware mainly … One of reasons I came back here was for that so I could get on a train and go home.’
Aubrey – who separated from Jeff in September 2024 – previously admitted every day had been a ‘struggle’ since her ex’s death. When asked how she is doing by Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, Aubrey said: ‘Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.’
