A Pub with a Unique History
While not an architectural gem, dating from the South Bank redevelopment in the 1970s, its brutalist layout has its own charm. The pub features a rear beer garden with a heated garden pavilion and a retractable roof, as well as an outdoor terrace with river views. It takes its name from the historic Doggett's Coat and Badge rowing race, established in 1715 by Irish actor Thomas Doggett, the UK's oldest competitive sporting event.

One wrote: 'The Coat and Badge could not be more convenient - across the bridge from Blackfriars station, 10 minutes from Kings Cross, St Pancras and easy to Waterloo and Liverpool Street. The bar was great for pre-lunch gathering and the staff were really engaging. The dining room has an outstanding view of the river... Menu is very full and responsive across all tastes.'
