Johnny Boy’s: Cali-Style Diner in Stoke Newington

Johnny Boy’s, a new California-inspired diner, has opened in Stoke Newington, bringing the flavours of Los Angeles’ diverse immigrant communities to London. The restaurant is the latest venture from Julian Denis, founder of the Hackney vegan restaurant Facing Heaven and adjacent dive bar Easy 8.

Inspired by LA’s Immigrant Enclaves

Denis, who grew up in California, said the concept was shaped by the family-run eateries that emerged from Mexican, Jewish, Greek, and Japanese communities across Southern California. ‘As these enclaves popped up, so developed a movement of DIY eateries that became neighbourhood focal points and second homes for many people,’ he said.

Menu and Opening Hours

The diner serves weekend breakfast, including breakfast burritos and chilaquiles, and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. Evening offerings include crab tostada, patty melts, and pastrami dip sandwiches.
