Michelin-starred Galvin La Chapelle, located near Spitalfields Market and Liverpool Street, is offering a five-course autumn menu priced at £49 per person, with an optional £41 wine pairing. The menu is available until November 7, according to the restaurant's website.
Michelin-Starred Dining in a Historic Setting
The restaurant, run by chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, is set in the Grade II listed former St Botolph's Hall, a triple-height room that once served as a girl's school, parish hall, and gymnasium. The Galvins, who have built a reputation for reliability and quality across their London restaurants, also operate the adjoining Galvin Bistrot and Bar, which offers a less formal sharing-plate menu, and a traditional countryside pub in Essex.
Galvin La Chapelle's autumn menu features seasonal elements described as earthy, gamey, and smoky. The meal begins with a choice of cocktail, either a classic Negroni or an Aperitif Maison, described as a refreshing mix of vodka, Noilly Prat, peach, and elderflower tonic. This is followed by warm bread with Greek olive oil, and appetizers including a Comte cheese gougere with mushroom ketchup and a duck liver parfait with muscat grapes and popcorn.
Seasonal Dishes and Wine Pairings
One starter highlighted is lightly charred mackerel with whipped feta and a vinaigrette, while a crab ravioli in beurre blanc is available for a supplement. Mains include a duo of Dedham Vale beef—a fillet and slow-cooked fore-rib with pommes Anna and a rich sauce, plus a fried oyster—and slow-cooked venison with bagna cauda and beetroot, paired with a Uruguayan red wine.
For dessert, the menu features a Delica pumpkin and clementine tart in a crispy shell, accompanied by a Pineau de Charente sweet wine aged in brandy barrels. An indulgent 'baba al tiramisu', flambeed at the table, is offered as a supplement.
Affordable Luxury at Galvin Bistrot
Next door at Galvin Bistrot, a hearty autumn sharing menu is priced at £29 per person. This includes a welcome cocktail and a communal feast with choices of starters, mains, and desserts, such as burrata pizetta, bayonne ham, mussels with aged barrel feta and chorizo, Dingley Dell pork T-bone with nduja and pumpkin, and Basque cheesecake or tiramisu.
According to a review by Bridget Galton, Features Editor and Associate Editor, the five-course menu at La Chapelle represents "very good value for this standard of cooking," noting the Galvins' reputation for taste, atmosphere, and attentive service. The review also praised the beef dish as having "the richest, glossiest beefiest sauce that you will ever taste."
The autumn menus at Galvin La Chapelle and Galvin Bistrot are available until November 7, offering diners a chance to experience Michelin-starred cooking at an accessible price point.
