Food critic shocked by £158.50 bill at Gordon Ramsay's Savoy Grill
Food critic shocked by £158.50 bill at Savoy Grill

YouTuber Sam Wilder, on a quest to dine at every Gordon Ramsay restaurant, recently visited the Savoy Grill in London. After a three-course meal, he was shocked by the final bill.

A Disappointing Culinary Experience

The Savoy Grill, located on the Strand, has been serving guests for 127 years, with chef Gordon Ramsay at the helm since 2003. Wilder, accompanied by three guests, opted out of the £125 per person tasting menu, a decision he later regretted.

His meal included a smoked salmon soufflé starter, a fillet steak main with fennel salad, Bloody Mary fries, and steamed broccoli, followed by assorted desserts like dark chocolate fondant.

Wilder described the starter as light and rich, though he admitted the soft fish was not to his taste. He praised the desserts as the meal's highlight, but the main course fell short. “My steak was just completely average,” he said. “For a fillet steak that cost £64, I would have expected it to be incredible. I've had better fillet steaks that don't cost half as much elsewhere.”

The Staggering Bill

After admiring the Savoy's opulent bathroom, Wilder returned to find a bill of £158.50 per person. “Remember earlier when we didn't want to spend £125 per person on the set menu? That was £158.50 per person,” he remarked.

Wilder concluded, “I can't give this one the Sam Wilder seal of approval. The food was just okay, nothing exceptional. I really wanted to like it, but at least the desserts were good. Sorry, Gordon.”

Despite the steak being cooked blue as requested, the overall experience left Wilder disappointed, especially after hearing high praise for the Savoy Grill. He did compliment the decor, calling it “very bougie and classy.”
