Six restaurants and cafes across Dartford have been handed some of the lowest food hygiene ratings following inspections this year, with two businesses receiving the second-lowest possible score of one out of five.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, run by the Food Standards Agency, gives customers an indication of the hygiene standards found at a food business at the time of inspection. A rating of one means "major improvement necessary," while a rating of two means "improvement necessary." The highest rating, five, means food hygiene is considered "very good."
Coffee Goat and Royal Tandoori Receive One-Star Ratings
Coffee Goat at 3 Station Approach in Dartford received a one-star rating following an inspection on March 11. The rating means "major improvement necessary," which was the same assessment it received for the management of food safety. Hygienic food handling was rated "improvement necessary," as was the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building. The business therefore received an overall rating of one out of five.
Royal Tandoori at 52 London Road, Stone, received a one-star rating following an inspection on July 8. The rating means "major improvement necessary." Hygienic food handling was rated "improvement necessary," as was the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building. The management of food safety was given the more serious assessment of "major improvement necessary." The business received an overall rating of one out of five.
Tapas Revolution at Bluewater Also Scores One Star
Tapas Revolution at Unit SVU06, Plaza - Upper, Bluewater, Greenhithe, received a one-star rating following an inspection on July 20. The rating means "major improvement necessary," which was the same assessment it received for the management of food safety. Hygienic food handling was rated "very good," while the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building was assessed as "improvement necessary." The business received an overall rating of one out of five.
Three other establishments received two-star ratings, meaning "improvement necessary." Bite & Brew Co at World Flavours, Kiosk 3, Priory Centre, Dartford, was inspected on July 1. Hygienic food handling was assessed as "improvement necessary," while the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building was rated "generally satisfactory," as was the management of food safety.
Two-Star Ratings for Bite & Brew Co, Munch Kitchen, and Churchyard Tea Room
Munch Kitchen at 33 Chastilian Road, Dartford, received a two-star rating following an inspection on April 2. Hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building were both rated "improvement necessary." The management of food safety was assessed as "generally satisfactory."
The Churchyard Tea Room at Holy Trinity Church Hall, High Street, Dartford, received a two-star rating following an inspection on January 6. Hygienic food handling was rated "improvement necessary," while the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building was assessed as "good." The management of food safety was rated "generally satisfactory."
The Food Standards Agency stresses that a rating reflects the standards found at the time of the inspection and can change after a business improves and is re-inspected. Businesses can appeal their rating, respond to it, or request a re-inspection through the local authority. It is also important to note that a food hygiene rating is not a guide to the quality of the food itself, but to the hygiene standards found during the inspection.
