Bodean's, the restaurant chain credited as London's first authentic American barbecue spot, has shut down all its remaining locations. The three outposts in Soho, Tower Hill and Camden are currently listed as 'temporarily closed' on Google, according to a report by Time Out UK.
Closure Confirmed by Website Message
A message on the Bodean's website reads: 'We're currently closed. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank you for your continued support and loyalty. We appreciate your understanding during this time and hope to welcome you again in the future. Thank you for dining with us.' The statement does not specify whether the closures are permanent or temporary.
Bodean's was founded in 2022 by Canadian restaurateur Andre Blais on Poland Street in Soho. The restaurant's Kansas-style philosophy was built around 'barbecue, bourbon, and beer', offering slow-smoked brisket, pulled pork and enormous sharing platters.
From Eight Locations to None
At its peak, Bodean's operated eight restaurants across London, including branches in Covent Garden, Balham, Muswell Hill, Clapham and Fulham, in addition to Soho, Tower Hill and Camden. The Balham and Muswell Hill locations closed in 2021, Clapham shut down in 2023 and Fulham followed in 2024, leaving only the three now-closed sites.
Last year, the chain underwent a brand revamp, including a return to its Kansas City barbecue roots. When Time Out's food editor visited, she recommended ordering The Bodean's BBQ Platter, which 'had it all – pork ribs, beef ribs, pulled pork, brisket, smoked sausage, vinegar slaw, and pickles, all piled high on a slab of Texas Toast'.
Legacy and Impact
The smokehouse was also known for its extensive beer collection, featuring a roster of American beers, or a 'Boilermaker' – a half pint of PBR and a shot of Four Roses bourbon. The closures mark the end of a chain that helped introduce authentic US-style barbecue to the capital.
For Londoners seeking a similar experience, the article highlights another establishment: 'Maybe the best barbecue ever eaten on UK soil': this Kensington joint is London's most unmissable BBQ restaurant for 2026. The future of Bodean's remains uncertain, with the website message hinting at a possible return but offering no timeline.
