Taylor Swift has officially announced the release of a brand new original song for Disney and Pixar's upcoming film Toy Story 5. The single, titled I Knew It, I Knew You, is set to debut on 5 June, with CD singles available for preorder on Swift's website. Fans can choose from three variants, each featuring a different version of the song: a piano rendition, an acoustic take, and the original track.
Speculation Confirmed
Rumors about Swift's involvement in the film began circulating last week after fans spotted billboards in major cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, and London. These posters featured the initials 'TS' in the iconic blocky yellow font synonymous with Toy Story. The speculation ended when Swift posted on Instagram on 1 June, following a Toy Story-themed countdown on her website. She wrote: 'It's a *Toy* Story. You knew it! My new original song I Knew It, I Knew You for Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th.'
A Dream Come True
In her announcement, Swift expressed her long-standing admiration for the franchise. 'I've always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I've adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,' she said. 'I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?'
The song was co-written with Swift's longtime collaborator, Jack Antonoff. According to a press release, I Knew It, I Knew You marks a return to Swift's country roots and was inspired by Jessie, the film's beloved cowgirl character.
Director's Praise
Andrew Stanton, the director of Toy Story 5, praised Swift's contribution. 'It's incredible just how meaningful it's been having Taylor write and perform this song,' he said. 'Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.'
Swift's Latest Work
This single is Swift's first new music since the release of her record-breaking album The Life of a Showgirl in October 2025. In April, she released a music video for the single Elizabeth Taylor, which featured archive footage of the legendary actor.
Toy Story 5 Release
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for worldwide release on 19 June. The film's trailer teases Buzz and Woody facing off against a new tech foe called Lilypad, a tablet device that threatens to monopolize playtime. The movie promises to explore themes of technology and nostalgia, with Swift's song adding an emotional layer to the story.
