London's £1bn Film Quarter Plans Submitted

London is set to become an even greater global hub for cinema with a monumental new development, as formal plans for the £1 billion Camden Film Quarter have now been officially submitted to the local council.

A Cinematic Vision for North London

Back in March 2025, the blockbuster ambition to create a brand-new district dedicated to film-making was first unveiled. Now, this vision has taken a significant step towards reality. The developer, Yoo Capital – the firm behind the transformation of West London's Olympia – has submitted a detailed planning application to Camden Council.

The proposal aims to convert under-utilised industrial land in the heart of Kentish Town into a purpose-built neighbourhood designed to be the UK's answer to Hollywood. This isn't just about studios; it's about creating a fully integrated community centred on the creative industries.

Inside the £1 Billion Blueprint

The scale of the project is vast. The current plans outline the creation of approximately 500 new homes, with a firm commitment that 50 percent of these will be affordable. Alongside housing, the quarter will boast 11 state-of-the-art film and television studios.

These facilities will be managed and operated by Oxygen Studios and feature a groundbreaking vertical studio model. Designed by Camden-based architects SPPARC, this innovative approach will stack production stages efficiently, maximising the use of the valuable urban space.

The development also promises new creative workspaces, public parks, and significant educational facilities developed in partnership with leading institutions like the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and the London Screen Academy (LSA).

A Bold New Chapter for London's Creative Sector

Lloyd Lee, co-founder and managing partner of Yoo Capital, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He stated, "Camden Film Quarter represents a bold new chapter for London’s creative industries - a place where storytelling, innovation, and community come together."

He emphasised that as the screen sector evolves, London requires infrastructure that matches its creative ambition. "By uniting world-class studios, affordable homes, and public spaces, we’re creating a place that will inspire the next generation and keep London at the forefront of the global film and television economy," Lee added.

This submission marks a pivotal moment for the capital's cultural and economic landscape. If approved, the Camden Film Quarter will not only provide a massive boost to the UK's film production capacity but also create a new, vibrant community in North London, solidifying the city's status as a world leader in creative arts.
