Hollyoaks Star Tisha Merry Confirms Throuple Plot Ends in Catastrophe
In an exclusive interview with Metro, Tisha Merry, who portrays Gemma Johnson in the popular soap opera Hollyoaks, has revealed that the controversial throuple storyline involving Gemma, Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), and Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) is set to conclude in utter disaster. The actress expressed initial shock at the plot, noting it seemed contrary to her character's calculated nature.
Character Motives and Plot Development
Merry explained that Gemma, known for her manipulative and strategic personality, only agreed to the throuple arrangement with an ulterior motive: to win Warren back. "I thought if Gemma were to go along with something like this, there would be an ulterior motive," she said. "She's quite a calculated person. She thinks everything through, she's used to playing games, conning people, so to be part of a throuple – her main intention was to win Warren back."
However, the actress highlighted that the characters' tumultuous circumstances made the plot plausible. Mercedes, fresh out of rehab, is desperate to reclaim her life, while Gemma is reeling from the revelation of Donny's rape, seeking comfort. "Mercedes propositions this offer – we'll all feel empowered," Merry added. "And I think Gemma just goes along with it, but soon realises that it's an absolute disaster and can't possibly end well."
Disaster Looms for the Throuple
When pressed on the outcome, Merry was unequivocal: "Oh, course, it'll end in disaster yeah, I think they all know that going into it, they may just be being a bit optimistic!" This confirmation sets the stage for dramatic fallout in upcoming episodes, as the trio's unconventional relationship unravels.
Adapting to Hollyoaks' Fast-Paced Environment
Beyond the storyline, Merry shared her experiences adapting to Hollyoaks' dynamic filming style, which includes last-minute rewrites and adjustments. Initially unnerved by the "carnage" of the workflow, she has since embraced it. "At first, my head quite literally fell off, and now I'm like, 'No, I love it,'" she admitted. "Once my brain got used to the way that it runs it's a case of bring it on, let's do this! I always say soaps are so fast moving because of the deadlines so if you can do a soap, you can do anything."
Praise for Cast and Crew
Merry, also known for her role as Steph Britton in ITV's Coronation Street, praised the supportive atmosphere at Hollyoaks. "With Hollyoaks, I find there's a lot of flexibility. There's a lot of room for actors to get involved with scripts and storylines," she said. "It's a very intimate cast where everyone gets on, and everyone's very friendly. I feel like this is really homey." She emphasized the collaborative spirit among cast and crew, noting it feels like a cohesive family.
Emotional Scenes Ahead
Looking forward, Merry warned viewers of intense emotional scenes as Gemma deals with the fallout of Donny's rape revelation. "The truth, finally, after these long months and months of keeping the secret, is finally revealed," she explained. "They are really, really, really emotional scenes." She credited co-star Louis Emerick for making such challenging performances manageable, highlighting the strong bonds within the cast.
In summary, Tisha Merry's insights offer a glimpse into the high-stakes drama unfolding in Hollyoaks, with the throuple plot destined for a catastrophic end and deeper character arcs on the horizon.
