Blue Star Duncan James Opens Up About Life with Mum and Beer Temperature Mission
Pop icon Duncan James, famed as a member of the band Blue, has candidly shared the joys and challenges of residing with his mother at the age of 48. While he cherishes the companionship and support, there is one notable drawback: his mother's penchant for helping herself to his beer stash while he is away on tour.
The Fridge Raid That Sparked a Laugh
"I returned home and headed straight to the fridge for a beer, only to find my mum had consumed them all," Duncan recounts with amusement. "She messaged me during my tour to say the beer was delicious and she simply couldn't resist." This light-hearted incident has become a family anecdote, highlighting the quirky dynamics of multi-generational living.
Partnering with Coors for the Perfect Chill
Amid Blue's reunion tour, Duncan has collaborated with Coors to introduce the Coors Cold Coorus, an innovative music video celebrating the ideal moment when beer reaches its peak coldness. New research from Coors indicates that only 16% of Brits chill their beer adequately before guests arrive, with over half accidentally freezing it. To address this, Coors employs thermochromic ink on its packaging; the iconic mountain graphic turns blue when the beer is perfectly chilled, ensuring a refreshing experience.
"There is nothing worse than warm beer," Duncan emphasizes. "The Coors cans and glasses turning blue at the right temperature is a brilliant feature. Having sampled beers worldwide, a cold one on a summer day is unbeatable—whether for yourself or your mum's friends."
A Shared Home and Heartwarming Moments
Duncan moved in with his mother, Fiona, during the Covid pandemic after selling his London flat, as she was living alone. Post-pandemic, they enjoyed each other's company so much that he purchased a shared townhouse in Surrey. "I have my own floor, and she has hers," he explains. "Though she drank my beer, I came home to bacon and eggs recently, which was lovely."
Embracing a more relaxed pace outside London, Duncan has a large private garden and hosted a barbecue for neighbors, serving cold beers and introducing them to his mum and bandmate Anthony Costa. He looks forward to summer beer gardens and festivals, including a performance with Blue at Live at Chelsea in June.
Interactive Campaign and Personal Reflections
Duncan has launched a new track with Coors to help fans serve beer at the perfect temperature. By placing Coors in the fridge and messaging "BLUE" to Coors on Instagram or Facebook, fans receive the Coors Cold Coorus video when the mountains turn blue, signaling readiness. "It's an anthem for chilled beer, a fun nod to the noughties, and part of an important mission," Duncan says.
Reflecting on deeper memories, Duncan shared that if he could share a beer with anyone, alive or deceased, it would be his best friend Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, who passed away nine years ago. "I really miss her; she had a wonderful energy and a naughty sense of humour. We met in 2001 and became instant friends. I wish I could sit down and have a beer with her again," he adds emotionally.
