A West London cinema is set to return after an 8-year absence. The iconic cinema brand Curzon will be reopening one of its flagship London locations later in 2026. Curzon has several locations around London and currently operates 16 cinemas.
New flagship on King's Road
This new flagship will reopen on the same Chelsea site it once called home, with a fresh new look. Opening this Autumn on the King's Road, it marks a reinvention for the iconic cinema brand, transforming its most historic site, The Gaumont, into a 20,000 sq ft destination.
The original Curzon on King's Road closed in 2018. This was due to the building needing extensive redevelopment. The new venue retains its distinctive Art Deco façade while completely reimagining the space behind it to cater to a new generation of cinema-goers.
What the new venue offers
Within the new building, there will be The Atrium, an all-day café, bar, and restaurant with a capacity of up to 300 guests. The Main Stage will feature a 300-seat auditorium with Dolby Atmos sound and 4K projection, designed for premieres, screenings, and large-scale events.
There will be two studios that can be used for podcasts and workshops, and an event space.
Curzon chairman and CEO Philip Knatchbull said: “Curzon has long operated across production, distribution and exhibition, but those boundaries are increasingly overlapping. Curzon Chelsea creates a space where ideas can be developed, tested and experienced in a more connected way, and where audiences can move fluidly between formats – film, audio and live events – for a truly immersive experience.
“We’re excited to return to such a historic location with a new flagship that will actively promote the creation and exhibition of the very best of British and international art and culture.”
The cinema will show the latest blockbuster releases, independent films, and special events. In February 2017, the Curzon group received the prestigious Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award at the British Academy Film Awards.
