Capcom's 2026 Gaming Triumph: A Golden Era Continues with More Hits to Come
Capcom's 2026 Gaming Triumph: More Hits Coming

Capcom is proudly showcasing its impressive 2026 video game lineup, confidently stating that it is 'not done' yet. The company has seen all three of its major releases this year become critical and commercial successes, with the trend poised to continue with the upcoming Onimusha title.

A Golden Age for Capcom

Since the late 2010s, Capcom has experienced a remarkable golden age, marked by consistently strong video game releases and minimal setbacks. The company revitalized the Resident Evil franchise after the poorly received Resident Evil 6, saw Monster Hunter explode in popularity in the West with Monster Hunter World—its best-selling game to date—and has now reached a position where it can launch riskier, experimental projects like Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess.

With 2026 not yet at its midpoint, this year could potentially be Capcom's best ever, fueling the company's boastful social media presence.

Social Media Boasts and Major Releases

On Bluesky, the official Capcom USA account shared a collage highlighting its key 2026 releases, including Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, the recently launched Pragmata, and the forthcoming Onimusha: Way Of The Sword. Labeling Onimusha as 'up next,' Capcom posted, 'We're not done with 2026 yet,' clearly acknowledging the positive reception of its games this year.

The company has every reason to brag. All three titles currently rank within the top 12 rated games of the year on Metacritic, with Resident Evil Requiem tying for first place with Pokémon Pokopia. Sales figures are equally impressive: Resident Evil Requiem became the fastest-selling entry in the series, while Pragmata sold one million copies in just two days despite being a new intellectual property.

Although Capcom has not disclosed sales data for Monster Hunter Stories 3, its Switch 2 version was the second best-selling game during its launch week in Japan, with the PlayStation 5 version ranking third, according to Famitsu. Notably, the collage omitted the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, a niche compilation of Nintendo DS remasters released last month.

What's Next for Capcom?

Capcom's hot streak is expected to continue with the launch of the new Onimusha game. Hands-on sessions and interviews with producer Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei from last year have generated significant excitement, though an exact release date remains unconfirmed.

Additional content is also in the pipeline for 2026:

  • Resident Evil Requiem will receive DLC, including a likely Mercenaries mode minigame and new story content.
  • Street Fighter 6 will add one more character, Ingrid, as part of its current season pass.
  • Dragon's Dogma 2 is widely anticipated to get DLC following a substantial 12GB update on Steam last week.

Looking ahead to 2027, curiosity is building around Capcom's lineup, especially with no other major releases planned beyond the lower-budget Mega Man: Dual Override. Rumors suggest more Resident Evil remakes are in development, with Resident Evil 0 possibly next, featuring a new online co-op mode. An Ōkami sequel is also in the works but unlikely for a 2027 release, as director Hideki Kamiya has given no indication of nearing completion.

Fans on social media are vocal about their desires, calling for new entries in series like Power Stone, Ace Attorney, and Dino Crisis. Given its long absence and the success of its predecessor, Devil May Cry 6 appears to be the most probable candidate for Capcom's future plans.
