Former Nightclub Manager Provides Detailed Account of Evening in Question
The former manager of the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne has come forward with his recollection of the night when actress Ruby Rose alleges she was sexually assaulted by pop star Katy Perry over a decade ago. Speaking anonymously to the Herald Sun, the manager described the evening as a "security nightmare" due to the attention the two celebrities attracted.
Security Concerns and Celebrity Presence
The manager recalled that Perry and Rose visited the venue along with the singer's makeup artist and another friend of Rose. With approximately 600 people in the nightclub at the time, Perry repeatedly "came out and danced with everybody and went right in the middle of the mosh pit," creating significant security challenges for the staff.
"We always protected them as much as we could," the former manager explained. "Being conscious of them both being public figures, we didn't want someone taking photos of them drunk like that."
Intoxication Levels and Departure Details
The manager stated that both women appeared intoxicated that evening, though not to the point of being "paralytic." He emphasized that "they both had way too much to drink" and were behaving similarly to other patrons enjoying a night out at the club.
According to his account, a security guard eventually escorted Perry and Rose from the venue through a rear exit. The pair mentioned they planned to proceed to a nearby hotel after leaving the bar.
No Awareness of Alleged Incident
The former manager clarified that he was completely unaware of any alleged assault occurring during their visit to Spice Market. The nightclub, which was located within the Grand Hyatt hotel, has since ceased operations.
Background of the Allegations
Earlier this week, Ruby Rose, the 40-year-old star of "Orange is the New Black," made serious allegations on social media against Katy Perry, claiming the 41-year-old singer sexually assaulted her at a Melbourne nightclub over ten years ago. Rose described a graphic incident where she alleged Perry "bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her."
The actress explained she had previously shared the story publicly but framed it as a "funny little drunk story" because she didn't know how to properly address the trauma at the time. Rose stated she kept the incident secret partly because Perry later agreed to help her obtain a US visa.
Official Response and Investigation
Perry's representatives have vehemently denied the allegations, calling them "dangerous reckless lies" and noting Rose's "well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals."
Victoria Police have confirmed they are investigating a "historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010" at a licensed premises in the city's central business district. A police spokesperson stated that as the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.
Rose has since indicated on Threads that she cannot discuss the incident further while police investigate her claims. The former nightclub manager's account provides additional context about the evening in question, though he maintains no knowledge of the alleged assault occurring during their time at his establishment.
