Couple Engaged 24 Hours After First In-Person Meeting Following Online Romance
Engaged 24 Hours After First Meeting in Online Love Story

From YouTube Comments to Engagement in 24 Hours

A Scottish waitress found herself engaged just twenty-four hours after meeting her American boyfriend face-to-face for the very first time, following an intense online romance that began through YouTube comments. Dani Scott, based in Galashiels, Scotland, accepted a proposal from Jake, 24, from the United States, after he traveled approximately 4,000 miles to meet her in February 2026.

A Connection Forged Online

The couple's unconventional love story started in December 2025 when Jake left a comment on one of Dani's YouTube videos about dumbphones, mentioning that she had inspired him. They began exchanging emails immediately, discovering an instant connection that quickly progressed to phone calls. Despite living on different continents, they decided to start a romantic relationship without ever having met in person.

'We just instantly clicked,' Dani told Talk To The Press. 'He's very gentle, kind, and really into nature. I like that he sees the world differently from other people.'

A Whirlwind Proposal

Jake's twelve-day visit to Scotland in February 2026 marked their first physical meeting. The day after his arrival, during a walk together, he proposed on one knee. Dani admitted she had anticipated the proposal but still found the moment incredibly exciting. The couple now plans to marry in summer 2027.

This engagement comes just four months after Dani called off her previous wedding to another fiancé in October 2025. That relationship had also moved quickly, with an engagement occurring within six months of dating while both studied theology at university in 2024.

Family Concerns and Future Plans

Not everyone has embraced the rapid engagement. Some friends and family expressed concerns about the timing, especially given Dani's recent breakup. 'Some friends think getting engaged again is a bit soon,' she acknowledged. 'And some friends didn't even know I'd broken up with my ex, so they are quite confused.'

However, Dani reports that her family has gradually become more accepting of the relationship. The haste stems partly from practical considerations: Dani hopes to move to the United States, and the visa process could take over a year, during which she cannot visit America. Her first trip to the U.S. will therefore be for their wedding in 2027.

Navigating Long-Distance Challenges

Until the wedding, the couple faces the challenges of a transatlantic relationship. Jake plans to visit the UK every few months, with another trip scheduled for April 2026—only their second in-person meeting. Financial constraints mean Dani's family likely won't attend the American wedding, but the couple hopes to host a separate celebration in Scotland for her relatives.

Despite external judgments and geographical obstacles, Dani remains optimistic. 'People's judgment does upset me sometimes, but I think over time people will get more used to the idea, as they will see that I'm actually happy,' she said.
