Peep Show Reunion: Bake Off Special Confirmed for Christmas 2024
Peep Show Cast Reunites for Christmas Bake Off

Fans of the cult classic Peep Show have reason to celebrate this festive season, as Channel 4 has officially confirmed a cast reunion a decade after the final episode aired. The beloved characters will be returning, not to a Croydon flat, but to the iconic tent of The Great British Bake Off for a one-off Christmas special.

The Cast is Back in the Kitchen

Marking the first time the core cast has shared the screen since the show concluded in 2015, the special will see five original stars don aprons. David Mitchell (Mark Corrigan), Olivia Colman (Sophie), Isy Suttie (Dobbie), Matt King (Super Hans), and Sophie Winkleman (Big Suze) are all confirmed to participate. Notably absent will be Robert Webb, who played Jeremy 'Jez' Usbourne.

The episode will feature the cast tackling three separate baking challenges, each designed to pay homage to the iconic British sitcom. While specific bakes are under wraps, one can only hope for a recreation of Mark's infamous 'Moroccan' pasta or a chocolate cake where the secret ingredient is crime.

Judging the Chaos

Overseeing the culinary efforts—or lack thereof—will be the show's regular judges, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. They will be tasked with ensuring the bumbling bakers, more accustomed to social disasters than soufflés, don't crumble under the pressure in the tent.

This won't be David Mitchell's first foray into the world of competitive baking. He previously appeared in a Bake Off Comic Relief special in 2015, an experience he described as nerve-racking. He told the Radio Times at the time, 'I was quite stressed about it in advance... I was better at living in denial that I had agreed to do it at all.' Fans can likely expect a similar lack of preparation for this festive challenge.

A Lasting Legacy

Peep Show ran for nine series on Channel 4 between 2003 and 2015, chronicling the lives of two dysfunctional flatmates in Croydon. While it never achieved blockbuster ratings during its original run, its unique perspective and painfully relatable humour have since cemented its status as a cult juggernaut, renowned as one of the most quotable British comedies ever made.

While an exact broadcast date is yet to be announced, Channel 4's festive Bake Off specials traditionally air on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day itself. For those looking to revisit the original misadventures, all nine series of Peep Show are available to stream on Channel 4, Netflix, and Disney+.
