Strictly's Shirley Ballas: Show Will Thrive After Tess & Claudia Exit
Shirley Ballas on Tess and Claudia Strictly replacements

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has confidently declared the hit BBC show will continue to succeed following the upcoming departure of its veteran presenters, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

A Show Bigger Than Any Individual

Speaking to Best Magazine, Ballas drew on the programme's history to back her claim. She emphasised that Strictly Come Dancing has successfully weathered the exit of other major figures in the past.

The show survived both Len Goodman and Sir Bruce Forsyth leaving, she stated, paying tribute to the late stars. Ballas firmly believes the show is an institution that is bigger than any single person involved, from the celebrities and professional dancers to the judges and presenters.

Respecting a Decision to Move On

While expressing her personal affection for the departing hosts, Ballas showed understanding for their choice. I will miss Tess and Claudia very much, she admitted, but sometimes in people's lives they feel it's time to move on and we have to respect this.

She added that she too would one day make the choice to move on, but reaffirmed that the core purpose of the show remains bringing joy to the public. It will thrive for as long as it is bringing joy to the public - and the public is who Strictly is for, Ballas said.

The Search for New Presenters

With speculation rife about who will fill the large shoes left by Daly and Winkleman, Ballas remained tactful about her own preferences. I definitely have some ideas about who I'd like but can't possibly say at this stage, darling, she hinted.

However, she did reveal a key supporter's opinion, noting If my mum Audrey has her way, Rylan will be one of them, though!

Regardless of the specific names, the head judge was clear on the calibre of presenter required. What is for sure is that we need a pair of seasoned professionals for it, Ballas asserted. It's going to take two very, very special people to step into the role next year.
