Masked Singer Host Joel Dommett Spills Celebrity Identity in Christmas Special Blunder
Masked Singer chaos as host Joel Dommett names celebrity

ITV's hit guessing game, The Masked Singer, has been plunged into chaos after its own host, Joel Dommett, committed a cardinal sin by accidentally naming one of the hidden celebrities.

A Festive Faux-Pas

The major slip-up occurred during filming for the show's upcoming Boxing Day special, which is set to air on ITV1 at 7.30pm. Dommett, 40, who has fronted the popular reality series for six years, was left stunned by his own mistake after hearing a very familiar laugh from behind one of the elaborate costumes.

The festive-themed characters for this year's special include Santa’s Sack, Goose A-Laying, Figgy Pudding and Mistletoe. It was the latter, Mistletoe, whose identity was prematurely exposed. Recognising the celebrity's distinctive chuckle, Dommett blurted out their real name without thinking, much to the shock and amusement of the live studio audience.

Red-Faced and on the Naughty Step

The comedian immediately realised his error, sinking to the floor in embarrassment as the audience erupted in laughter. Reflecting on the incident in an interview with The Sun, Dommett admitted, ‘I can’t believe I did it. This person was chuckling in the costume and it’s a chuckle I know well and I said their name. It just came out. Their actual name!’

His blunder did not go unnoticed by the show's producers. ‘Thankfully, [the judges] had pretty much guessed who it was,’ Dommett explained. ‘But producers did reiterate to me that I wasn’t to do that again. I was on the naughty step.’ The entire debacle will be included in the final broadcast, though the identity of Mistletoe is being kept tightly under wraps until transmission.

Not The First On-Stage Drama

This is not the first time The Masked Singer UK has been rocked by unexpected drama. Earlier in 2025, contestant Toad in the Hole famously stormed off stage before revealing themselves as R&B legend Macy Gray, in a moment fans described as ‘excruciating’. Dommett later joked about his own commentary during that incident, lamenting that his funniest line was cut from the broadcast.

Despite the latest spoiler, anticipation remains high for the Christmas special. Viewers will have to tune in on December 26th to see the fallout from Dommett's mistake and finally discover which celebrity was behind the Mistletoe costume.
