Kate Garraway Opens Up About Future Dating After Derek Draper's Death
Kate Garraway reveals dating hopes after husband's death

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has given a candid and emotional insight into her personal life, discussing for the first time the possibility of dating again following the death of her husband, Derek Draper.

A Heartfelt Conversation on Love and Loss

During a recent appearance on Jamie Laing's Great Company podcast, the 58-year-old broadcaster revealed she is beginning to contemplate what the next chapter of her life might hold. The conversation turned to the sensitive topic of future romance, prompted by a question from Laing.

Garraway responded thoughtfully, stating, 'Well I wouldn’t like to think that I’d never had romantic love in my life again. I think that would be rather a sad way to go through life wouldn’t it?' She was quick to add, however, that she is not actively looking for a partner, telling Laing, 'But no, I’m not there yet. I don’t know if anybody would want me Jamie.'

She lightened the poignant moment with a playful challenge to the Made in Chelsea star, asking him to 'Talk to your mates, find out if any of their dads are single, that’s your task Jamie.'

Navigating Modern Dating Culture

Laing went on to ask if she would ever consider using a dating app, a suggestion Garraway laughed off. 'No, course not,' she said. 'I don’t think I’ve ever really dated because everyone keeps asking me about dating and I don’t think I’ve ever dated in that way that you guys do.'

She admitted that the idea of arranged meet-ups feels unnatural, explaining she would likely end up interviewing a potential date. Reflecting on how social interactions have changed, Garraway added, 'I’m of the old school where you lived life, did things you loved and then met people along the way. But maybe that doesn’t happen anymore.'

Remembering Derek Draper

Derek Draper, a former political lobbyist and journalist, died in January 2024 at the age of 56 after a long and public health battle. His severe complications began after contracting Covid-19 in March 2020, which led to extensive damage to his organs. He suffered a cardiac arrest in early December 2023, which resulted in further complications.

Garraway announced his passing on Instagram, writing that he was surrounded by family in his final days. The couple, who were married for almost 20 years, shared two children: daughter Darcey, now 17, and son Billy, 14.

Since her husband's death, Garraway has focused on rebuilding life with her children. Her recent comments mark a significant and brave step as she tentatively looks to a future that may one day include romance again, while honouring the profound love she shared with Derek.
