WWE Legends Hardy Boyz Address Bizarre Death Hoax Circulating Online
WWE icons Matt Hardy, 51, and Jeff Hardy, 48, have been forced to publicly address a bizarre death hoax that spread rapidly across social media platforms this week. The legendary tag team, known collectively as the Hardy Boyz, are emphatically not dead, despite false claims circulating online that suggested otherwise.
Fake Facebook Account Sparks Widespread Confusion
A fraudulent Facebook account posing as WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg falsely claimed that the current TNA Wrestling tag team champions had died. The deceptive post was shared over 1,000 times and attracted numerous comments from fans paying tribute, creating significant confusion within the wrestling community.
Although the page in question typically uses AI-generated images to drive engagement, the death hoax proved convincing enough to prompt Matt Hardy to release an official statement on Thursday to shut down the damaging rumors.
Matt Hardy's Characteristic Response
With a hint of his iconic "Broken" persona, Matt shared an Instagram video featuring screenshots of the hoax. He declared, "They've tried to kill the Hardys off for years. Ladies and gentleman, the rumours are not true. The Hardy Boyz are not dead because Matt and Jeff Hardy will not die!"
Ever the professional, Matt used the attention to promote the Hardys' scheduled match on that evening's TNA IMPACT broadcast. He confirmed, "We are both alive and well and we will be featured tonight in the main event of TNA IMPACT that starts at 9 pm ET on AMC. We will be teaming up reluctantly with The Righteous. We will be taking on those jackasses, The System."
He added a warning to their temporary partners: "Righteous, this is your one opportunity to make things right, and if you betray us, if you turn on us, you're going to FAFO."
Apology and Explanation
In the comments section of his post, Matt apologized if he frightened anyone with his dramatic announcement but explained he felt compelled to speak out after receiving his own obituary dozens of times throughout the day. He wrote, "Sorry to frighten anyone, but that FB post of my obituary has been sent to me 100 times today & I wanted to let everyone know it was false. It won't be my ghost tonight on TNA iMPACT at 9pm on @amc_tv – It's the alive & well Matt Hardy!"
Recent Match and Future Prospects
The Hardy Boyz' match on Thursday saw them teaming with The Righteous duo of Vincent and Dutch against The System quartet of Brian Myers, Eddie Edwards, Cedric Alexander, and Bear Bronson. The bout ended with Vincent shoving Matt out of harm's way to take a Boston Knee Party from Edwards, securing victory for The System.
Matt and Jeff have expressed enjoyment working with The Righteous, who were originally slated to be paired with the late Bray Wyatt in WWE before plans changed months before the legendary wrestler's tragic death at age 32 in August 2023. Matt exclusively told Metro earlier this month, "Windham would have loved to have been able to sink his teeth into Vinnie and Dutch, no doubt. The thing I really enjoy the most about them is how committed they are to the bit, and that's what's important whenever you're playing a character in pro wrestling. You really have to become that character, especially when the red light is on."
Potential WWE Return
Not only are the Hardy Boyz alive and well, but they could potentially return to WWE television in the future. Matt revealed, "We're in constant negotiations with WWE about doing some more stuff. We will do more with them." This news will undoubtedly excite fans who have followed the brothers' careers across multiple wrestling promotions throughout their more than three decades in the industry.
The Hardy Boyz continue to demonstrate their resilience both in and out of the ring, addressing false information with characteristic flair while maintaining their commitment to professional wrestling entertainment.
