The National Gallery has launched a quiz as part of the Art Fund's museum of the year competition, challenging visitors to test their knowledge on masterpieces including Van Gogh's Sunflowers and a cut-up Manet.
How Many Sunflowers Did Van Gogh Paint?
One of the quiz questions asks: how many Sunflowers did Vincent Van Gogh paint? The answer is 11, though only five are in public collections. The National Gallery in London holds one of the most famous versions, painted in 1888.

Another question focuses on Édouard Manet's 'The Execution of Emperor Maximilian', which was cut into pieces after the artist's death. The National Gallery's version was reassembled in the 1990s after a curator discovered fragments in storage.
The quiz is part of the Art Fund's museum of the year prize, which awards £120,000 to the winning institution. Five museums have been shortlisted, and each was asked to pose questions about their collections. The National Gallery's curatorial team created the initial set of questions to engage the public.
