Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley, known for playing Mandy Dingle, is celebrating her 50th birthday today. The star took to Instagram to share a joyful photo with a birthday cake featuring a sparkler candle, along with a heartfelt message about gratitude, love, and her recent MBE award.
Birthday reflections and gratitude
In her Instagram post, Riley wrote: 'So 50 years old TODAY, I feel so grateful, so blessed, so content and loved. Life throws many things our way, good, bad, painful and sometimes confusing. But we keep going, stay strong, we fall down occasionally.' She thanked her partner Al, her late mother, and her closest friends, adding: 'Love and laughter are the best ingredients for a fantastic relationship. Then to top it off I got my MBE this year, another massive reason to have the biggest smile daily.'
Mandy Dingle's journey on Emmerdale
Riley has played the flamboyant Mandy Dingle for 31 years, first appearing in 1995 when she married her cousin Butch Dingle to acquire a caravan. Her true love has always been local vet Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), though their relationship faced many ups and downs, including infidelity and separation, leading to Mandy's exit in 2001. After 18 years away, she returned in 2019 with her adoptive son Vinnie, rescuing him from an abusive home. Since then, she has supported Paddy through his depression and the revelation that his father was a victim of modern slavery.
Recent milestones and future
Riley recently dismissed rumours that Mandy would leave the soap, despite Vinnie's upcoming departure. Her MBE, awarded this year, recognises her contributions to television and charity. The actress's birthday post has garnered widespread support from fans and colleagues, celebrating her enduring role in the iconic soap.
