Jack Savoretti and Jemma Powell look back: 'When she walked in I thought, "There you are. The mother of my children"'
First Meeting and Early Romance
Jack Savoretti and Jemma Powell met at a party. Jemma was chatting with Jack's sister, Beatrice, and noticed Jack across the room. She told Beatrice she thought he was gorgeous, only to discover he was her brother. They hung out that night, and the following week, Jack visited Jemma at the cafe where she worked. Jemma was so embarrassed that she hugged him to hide her red face. After he left, she didn't have his number, so she went to the studio where he was writing, knocking on every door asking for a singer named Jack who was Italian. No one knew him, and she lost her cafe job for disappearing too long. Eventually, she got his number from a mutual friend, and their wild romance began.
The Iconic Kiss
In 2007, Jack and Jemma shared a genuine kiss for the music video of Jack's song 'Dr Frankenstein.' Jack recalls it wasn't a director's suggestion but a real moment. He wore a choker and joked that he must have had great chat to get away with it.
Fiery Relationship and Growth
Jemma describes their early relationship as intense, with crazy fights centered on the depth of their feelings. She was madly in love and fiercely supportive, attending his pub gigs and declaring he would be huge. Jack admits their love was never enough, and they always needed more from each other. He wrote 'Harder Than Easy' after a fight on an easyJet flight to Ibiza, capturing their constant drama.
Marriage and Parenthood
They married in 2010, and their first child was born six months later. Parenthood brought significant change: Jemma became more self-assured, and they had to navigate roles and resentments. Jack wanted to be home with the kids while touring, and Jemma wanted to see the world. When Jemma landed a big acting role in Rome, their situations reversed, and mutual respect grew.
Annoying Traits and Romance
Jack's most annoying trait, according to Jemma, is sulking, which can last for days. She finds silence toxic. Jemma admits she gave up drinking for two years and became 'Mrs Perfect,' but now drinks occasionally. To keep romance alive, she cooks his favorite pasta dishes, though he's gone off her ragu. They also laugh together often.
Advice for Lasting Marriage
Jack believes their marriage has lasted because they started young, with a naive attitude to figure things out as they go. He emphasizes knowing when to give space and being realistic about ups and downs. His advice: find someone you can hate, because falling in love is easy. Jemma feels the same as in their early photo, but now full of pride for the life they built together.
They live in Oxfordshire with three children, four dogs, and a cat. Jack tours his new album, 'We Will Always Be the Way We Were,' throughout 2026, while Jemma's exhibition, 'Through the Eyes of the Eagle,' runs at the Chancery Rosewood hotel in London until 18 July.
