Grammy-winning artist Chappell Roan has publicly confirmed her departure from the talent agency Wasserman, following the emergence of emails between agency founder Casey Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell in the Jeffrey Epstein files. The 27-year-old singer, known for hits like Hot To Go, announced the decision on Instagram, stating she refuses to passively stand by in light of the revelations.
Roan's Statement on Moral Values and Industry Accountability
In her social media post, Roan emphasised her commitment to holding her teams to the highest standards. I have a duty to protect them as well, she wrote. No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict deeply with our own moral values. She further argued that artists deserve representation aligning with their values and supporting their safety and dignity, calling for accountability and leadership that earns trust in the entertainment industry.
Casey Wasserman's Controversial Emails and Response
The controversy centres on emails exchanged in 2003 between Casey Wasserman, then 51, and Ghislaine Maxwell. In these messages, Wasserman reportedly asked for massages and rubbing from Maxwell, while his wife was pregnant at the time. Although Wasserman has not been accused of any wrongdoing by Epstein survivors, the association has sparked significant backlash.
In a statement, Wasserman expressed deep regret for the correspondence, noting it occurred over two decades ago before Maxwell's crimes were known. He claimed no personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein but acknowledged travelling on Epstein's plane in 2002 as part of a Clinton Foundation humanitarian delegation. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them, he concluded.
Growing Backlash and Calls for Leadership Change
According to industry reports, several artists are considering leaving Wasserman over this issue, with sources describing tensions at a fever pitch. Artists' agents have reportedly presented an ultimatum for Wasserman to step down or sell the company, though he has done neither to date. Additionally, there are calls for him to resign from his role as chairman for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Bethany Cosentino, frontwoman of Best Coast, who has been with Wasserman since 2021, called for his resignation, stating she did not consent to having her career tied to someone with associations to exploitation. Staying quiet isn't something I can do in good conscience, she asserted, highlighting a pattern of powerful men being protected without consequence.
Rock band Beach Bunny also expressed being hugely disappointed and disgusted by their CEO's involvement with Maxwell. The agency represents a roster of high-profile names including Billie Eilish, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran, alongside sports stars and comedians, though their responses remain unclear.
