Brini Maxwell, the 60s housewife drag character created by Ben Sander, has turned all her hobbies into a profession. As an interior designer, crafter, and television personality, Maxwell hosts a regular craft night at New York City's Club Cumming. In a recent interview, she detailed her daily routine and revealed that a tag sale to raise money for craft supplies brought in over $1,000.
Morning Routine and Daily Habits
Maxwell wakes up around 10 or 10:30 am. She starts her day with a gym session, explaining, "I have to maintain the instrument." In the afternoons, she produces videos, including a recent series documenting her shoe collection. She mentioned using a "baby foot" treatment mask for her feet a couple weeks ago.
Her lunch is consistent: a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread from a Massachusetts bakery, a slice of cheddar cheese, and a glass of diet A&W root beer. While eating, she checks eBay alerts for vintage clothes and appliances.
Challenges and Success at the Tag Sale
The annual tag sale to raise money for craft supplies was a major undertaking. "It's a big commitment and a lot of logistics," Maxwell said. One regular, Marty, helped transport items with his car. Despite the effort, the sale was highly successful, generating over $1,000.
Hobbies as Profession and Social Life
Maxwell has fully integrated her hobbies into her career: "I have made all of my hobbies my profession. I don't have anything that's just for fun." However, she prioritizes socializing, often spending weekends at a country house with friends or dining with her 90-year-old father, who lives on Roosevelt Island.
Nightly Routine and Late-Night Habits
As a self-described late-night person, Maxwell follows a strict evening routine. She meditates and studies German, as she is a German citizen. In 2019, she and her father regained their German passports, which she calls "a nice thing to have in this day and age."
After dinner, she browses eBay for vintage fabric and wallpaper, which she collects. She watches episodes of Match Game in chronological order, currently up to 1976. Living in a studio apartment, she pulls out the bed and transforms the living room into a bedroom, typically turning out the light around 2 am.
