Free Online Tool Empowers Small Businesses to Reduce Energy Costs and Emissions in Under an Hour
A new free online tool is helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) worldwide to cut their energy bills and transition to greener operations in just 60 minutes. The Climate Action Planner, launched by the SME Climate Hub in partnership with Giki and supported by the UK Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, offers a streamlined solution for businesses seeking practical climate action.
Addressing a Critical Gap for SMEs
SMEs constitute approximately 90% of global businesses and contribute about half of economic output, yet many struggle with limited time and resources to develop formal climate strategies. The Climate Action Planner is designed to bridge this gap by providing a simple, guided process that generates a customized action plan quickly, eliminating the need for weeks of planning or expensive external consultants.
How the Tool Works
Users begin by answering a brief set of questions about their business operations. The tool then leverages a database of over 750 actionable steps to produce a step-by-step roadmap tailored to the specific industry and goals of the business. This approach ensures that the advice is not generic but rather personalized to drive meaningful results.
Pamela Jouven, director of the SME Climate Hub, emphasized the tool's practicality: "For many small business owners, climate action can seem daunting and costly. This tool simplifies the process, focusing on immediate steps to lower bills and enhance efficiency. It's not just about environmental benefits—it's about maintaining competitiveness by reducing energy waste and adapting to customer and supply chain expectations."
