Regent Street Goes Car-Free for Christmas Shopping Event
Regent Street pedestrianised for Christmas shopping

One of London's most iconic shopping destinations is set for a major transformation this festive season as Regent Street prepares to close its roads to vehicles for the first time in five years.

A Festive Pedestrian Paradise

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, the famous West End shopping street will become completely car-free between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus, creating a pedestrian-friendly Christmas shopping experience that hasn't been seen since before the pandemic. The road closure will run from 2pm through to 9pm, allowing visitors to browse the luxury stores without competing with buses, black cabs or delivery vehicles.

The event marks a significant moment for London's retail landscape, reviving a tradition that many thought had been permanently lost following the last pedestrianisation in 2020. Shoppers will be able to wander freely along the normally traffic-filled thoroughfare, taking in the famous Christmas lights without the constant hum of engine noise.

Entertainment and Experiences Along the Festive Mile

The transformed street, now being called the 'Festive Mile', will feature three specially decorated vintage London buses, each offering unique Christmas experiences. One bus will serve as an elevated selfie station, providing the perfect backdrop for seasonal social media photos with Regent Street's famous architecture and decorations.

Another bus will host the Choose Love Disco Bus, featuring live performances from choirs and DJ sets to keep the festive spirit alive throughout the evening. The third bus will focus on Christmas crafts, offering wreath-making workshops and a complimentary gift-wrapping service for purchases made on the day.

Roving entertainers will add to the magical atmosphere, with stilt walkers, juggling jesters, festive butlers and even Hamleys elves mingling with the crowds. For refreshments, visitors can enjoy warming non-alcoholic beverages including hot chocolate and alcohol-free mulled wine.

Special Offers and Charity Initiatives

Several Regent Street retailers are joining the celebration with exclusive one-day promotions. Participating stores include Marc Jacobs, Ziggy Green and Neom, though organisers suggest checking with individual shops for specific offers on the day.

In a heartwarming addition, the Choose Love charity shop returns to Regent Street for its second consecutive year with the Ultimate Charity Shop pop-up. The store will sell essential supplies and life-saving interventions for refugees alongside Choose Love merchandise, allowing shoppers to support important humanitarian work while completing their Christmas lists.

The event represents a welcome return of large-scale pedestrianisation to central London, offering both residents and tourists a unique opportunity to experience one of the city's most famous shopping streets in a completely new way during the busy festive period.
