M&S Opens New Fulham Foodhall and Reveals 172 London Expansion Targets
M&S Opens New Fulham Store, Plans London Expansion

Marks & Spencer has significantly bolstered its presence in West London with the launch of a brand new Foodhall in Fulham, a key move in its wider strategy to reshape and grow its retail footprint across the capital.

A New Store for Fulham

The new 10,900 square foot store officially opened its doors on Friday, November 21, at 2-6 Fulham Broadway, SW6 1AA. This location was previously occupied by Whole Foods. The opening ceremony was conducted by Hammersmith and Fulham Mayor Sharon Holder, with the beloved M&S mascot Percy Pig in attendance to mark the occasion.

Residents in the area now have convenient access to a full range of M&S products, perfect for stocking up on Christmas essentials like mince pies and Baileys. The store features an in-store bakery, barista-made coffee, and a dedicated 'food-on-the-move' section for quick lunch options.

The Fulham Broadway store will operate from 7am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

London-Wide Expansion Gains Momentum

The Fulham launch is part of a concentrated wave of new openings for M&S in London. This follows the debut of a new store on Clapham High Street on Thursday, November 20. Furthermore, an existing store in Chiswick is scheduled to reopen in early December after undergoing significant upgrades.

These recent developments add to the recently opened 5,300 square foot Foodhall on Southampton Street in Covent Garden and the reopenings of the Temple Fortune and Wimbledon Foodhalls.

Thinus Keeve, Retail Director at M&S, commented on the strategy: "We want to be proud of every store we have across the capital and as we reshape for growth, our focus is opening new stores to grow our footprint but also renewing those stores where we can deliver a better shopping experience for our customers. It’s brilliant to have such a strong property pipeline across London in the months ahead."

The London 'Wish List': 172 Potential Locations

Backing this flurry of activity is a ambitious national plan from Marks & Spencer, which has identified 500 potential locations across the UK for modernising its estate and expanding its network of stores.

For London specifically, the retailer has published a 'wish list' of 172 areas where it is considering opening new Food stores or renewing existing ones. The company is targeting high-visibility, accessible sites.

Key areas of interest across the capital include:

  • North/North West London: Baker Street, Brent Cross Town, Finchley Road, Golders Green, Shepherds Bush, and Wembley.
  • East/North East London: Walthamstow, Canada Water, Shoreditch, and Whitechapel.
  • South/South West London: Wandsworth, Balham, Wimbledon, and Nine Elms.

Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, stated: "The strong performance of our new M&S food stores gives us the confidence to explore even more locations across the UK... We are moving faster. Our team want new sites where we could open a large M&S Food store as we deliver on our strategy to bring the right stores to the right places."

The new and renewed stores are expected to feature extended food ranges, wider aisles for easier navigation with trolleys, and improved parking facilities to better serve families and larger shopping trips.
